Pre-export Assembly Depots and Feedlotting
Prior to the export journey International Livestock Export Pty Ltd ("ILE") assembles and prepares the animals at pre-export depot facilities. ILE owns and operates two facilities, namely the Broome Common and the Cullalla Feedlot in Perth, and has access to facilities at alternative ports that may be closer to land transport and/or clients preferred destination ports.
Correct assembling and preparing the livestock for export is a crucial component of the export process, equal to the selection and purchase of healthy, quality livestock. In the assembly process, livestock are categorised by sex, weight, age and other characteristics according to Australian standards for livestock export. The assembly process also includes meeting client requirements and specifications, including the types and presentation of livestock.
During the pre-export assembly stage, ILE prepares livestock for their impending journey. The livestock are accustomed to the new food and close social groupings they will experience on board the vessel. The health and wellbeing of livestock is improved where necessary, for example an excessively woolly sheep may be shorn at on-site shearing facilities.
